A police sergeant that leaped to the help of a colleague that got attacked by a knifeman has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a knife to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the law enforcement personnel and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.

"Officer attacked," the constable could be heard saying over his radio.

Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage released by the force revealed Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.

He collided with the officer who tripped and dropped to the ground, before Sgt Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor despite being repeatedly struck with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a open target, ending the fight to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get help on my neck here, I've been stabbed in the neck."

Sergeant Ansell sustained two lacerations to his throat and more injuries to his limbs and body, whereas Sergeant Foster suffered knife wounds.

Authorities said Sgt Foster used his bare hands to control his fellow officer's blood loss before paramedics arrived.

The new honor follows after the trio of policemen won departmental Courage Honors in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the area Police Federation in April 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Valor Recognition in mid-2024.

"The efforts of the entire team eventually rescued themselves and ensured no bystanders suffered any injuries."

Brown was given to an secure medical confinement in early 2024, per officials.
