Welcome from Del Mar close to San Diego, as day two for this Breeders’ Cup 2025 has commenced. It also represents the final day of elite competition for legendary jockey Frankie Dettori, who is set to retire after an illustrious 40-year career.

This event was expected to be among the more competitive editions of this unique seven-furlong contest for female horses. Yet, veterinary inspections resulted in multiple withdrawals earlier today, including top contenders Sweet Azteca as well as Tamara.

As a result, the field looks much smaller, but conditioner Bob Baffert has a major opportunity to claim his 20th Breeders’ Cup win. His runners feature Richi and Splendora, whereas Hope Road, victor in the G1 Ballerina Stakes, is considered the primary threat.
