An extensive extended cruise circling Australia has been cancelled in the wake of the death of an senior female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a distant island.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back several hours later after the ship staff became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission found her person the next day.

Officials are looking into the tragedy, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

Head of the cruise operator stated that passengers and personnel on the vessel were informed that the rest of the journey had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be provided a full refund, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also published an revised announcement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Commander" preventing any additional guests from entering the liner.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and saddened that the ship left Lizard Island after an organised tour without my mother".

In her statement, she portrayed her parent as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a participant of a hiking organization.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it appears that there was a failure of attention and basic judgment," she said.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to determine what "the company should have done that might have protected Mother's life".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and mum fell ill on the hill climb," she stated.

"They requested her to return, alone. Then the boat left, reportedly without doing a roll call.
