The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Replay technology are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Players will gain the ability to question specific rulings made by the official, echoing the system currently in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system will be operational on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This development arrives only a year after the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to re-examine other decisions, including:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there is no limit on the number of challenges a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
A recent example took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.
The British player conceded it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews aren't new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at every one of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where spectators have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was out or in.
Finally, with exactly 100 days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
